FAQ

Joining Us

Can I join Barnstormers?

Yes! Anyone can join, the only proviso being it has to be at the beginning  of rehearsing for a show as there’s no time to go back and cover the stuff you’ll have missed half-way through a rehearsal run. Any one can join Barnstormers regardless of skill level, age, race, sexuality, religion etc.  Barnstormers is a fully inclusive organisation.

Is there a minimum skill level to join?

No, see above!

But I can’t sing, dance or act?

There are plenty of off-stage roles in Barnstormers that help us put on the shows and performances. Many of these roles are critical to the performance itself and without people to do the off-stage roles our performances certainly couldn’t go ahead.

What off-stage roles are there?

Lots and lots, here is a non-exhaustive list:

  • Wardrobe – Creating and making our wonderful costumes
  • Lighting – Lighting the stage during performances
  • Sound – Making sure the cast can be heard and all the sound effects are in the right places
  • Band – Playing the music that accompanies our many musical numbers
  • Choreography – Planning, teaching and over-viewing the dances moves
  • Make-up – Putting make up on the actors and actresses so they look their best on stage!
  • Prop construction – Making props for the actors to use in the shows
  • Backstage crew – moving scenery on and off stage, making sure props are in the right place for the actors and generally maintaining a calm atmosphere back stage.
  • Box office – being a point of contact for Barnstormers when people want to buy tickets for the performance
  • Photography – Taking publicity pictures of the Cast, Crew and Band for use in our programmes, advertising etc.
  • Front of House – Welcoming everyone into the performance, serving drinks and generally making sure the audiences are looked after and happy.
  • Programme / Poster Design – Designing all advertising materials and the programme that’s handed out at each show.

So, if I join Barnstormers, do I get paid?

No, everyone at Barnstormers dedicates their time and efforts for free, for fun and the enjoyment of putting on great shows that people enjoy.

So, how do I join Barnstormers?

Using the details on the ‘Contact Us‘ page either e-mail us or call us, letting us know, who you are and what you want to do and we’ll take it from there.

Rehearsals / Shows

How many shows do you put on every year?

We tend to put on two show runs every year, one main show in the spring (April/May) and one smaller production in the Autumn (November).

How many performances of each show do you do?

We tend to do four performances of our main show in the spring and then three of the show in the Autumn. This, however, is subject to the show license we get granted.

I want to join Barnstormers, when do rehearsals start?

Rehearsals for the spring show tend to start in the first week of January, with an introduction night introducing the show at some point in December, and run all the way through until the show run. Rehearsals for the autumn show tend to start sometime in August and run all the way through until the show.

How many rehearsals do you have a week? / What days do you rehearse?

We tend to rehearse two days a week generally Thursday and Friday, however this changes depending on what’s going on in the Church.
